On Sunday, July 21, 2019, around 80 volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation hosted a blood drive in Philadelphia, PA. Volunteers and local residents shared the love of life by donating their blood. The WeLoveU Foundation partnered with Miller-Keystone Blood Center, which serves 22 local hospitals in the region. This blood drive was a part of a global effort around under WeLoveU’s 2019 One-Two Blood Drive Movement.
During the summer months, many blood centers run short of blood supply throughout the nation. Many college students, who play a major role in blood donations, are on break and people tend to be much busier with their planned vacations and outings. Although summer is the optimal time to take a break, the need for blood never takes a break, especially since people are more active during the summer, when there is a greater potential for injuries that result in transfusion.
The WeLoveU volunteers are taking the lead in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, this time in particular #3: Good Health and Well-Being.

Volunteers arrived as early as 7 a.m. to set-up for the first donor arrival at 10:30 a.m. Upon arriving, donors began a brief medical screening process. Then, each approved donor waited for their turn to to donate. After each donation, donors re-energized in the recovery station by eating snacks and sitting.
From the participant’s efforts, about 50 pints of blood were collected, which can save up to 150 lives! Today’s donation helps the Miller-Keystone Blood Center provide life-saving blood to the hospitals they serve.

Blood is remarkable. It contains life and it cannot be recreated—it must be donated. I heard there is a severe shortage of blood donation in the state of Pennsylvania, it’s great to see young adults taking the initiative to help out! The WeLoveU foundation is very inspirational for the younger generations and creates a beautiful mindset to help others, great job!
