Intl. WeLoveU Foundation Donates 450 Backpacks to Spencer Technology Academy in Chicago

The International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with the Children First Fund — the Chicago Public Schools Foundation — to host a school supply drive. All August long, volunteers collected backpacks and supplies, and on Thursday, August 26, 2021, the WeLoveU Foundation delivered 450 new backpacks and supplies to Spencer Technology Academy students in Chicago, IL.

Introducing the Packs on Backs Project

The backpack donation falls under WeLoveU’s Education initiative and, more specifically, the Closing the Homework Gap program: Packs on Backs. The Packs on Backs project aims to remove the barrier between students and the lack of school supplies, namely backpacks. Through it, WeLoveU wants to supplement students’ classroom experience by giving them an essential tool like a backpack.

Chicago Public Schools has a critical task of educating today’s youth. By donating backpacks, WeLoveU hopes to alleviate the stress families, and teachers may feel when it’s time to purchase new supplies. In this way, educators can continue providing quality education to their students, which is Global Goal #4.

Strength in Unity: WeLoveU’s Partnership With Children First Fund

Also, the Chicago Packs on Backs donation is the beginning of WeLoveU’s one-year commitment and partnership with the Children First Fund. Both foundations will be implementing initiatives to serve the students throughout the academic year.

At the donation ceremony, an Intl. WeLoveU Foundation representative shared a brief message about unity.

“Ubuntu is a proverb that means ‘I am because we are.’ We are a community; we are a family. The center of the family and our community is our children. Nothing is more important than their advancement,” said John Power from the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation. “We have heard it takes a village to raise a child. So, to ensure our youth is taken care of, it is necessary to work together to provide the basic supplies for the children in our community.”

He concluded his speech by saying, “We want all Chicagoans to know that we hear you, we see you, and we care for you.” The International WeLoveU Foundation will continue to support the students in Chicago until all receive a quality education, which every child deserves.
