Ninety-six volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with State Representative Jared Solomon to make a positive change in Northeast Philadelphia on a chilly Sunday morning. Their mission was to clean up 10 blocks, spanning from McKinley Street to Brous Street, on January 14, 2024.
The volunteers gathered at the Max Myers Recreation Center, where they were filled with excitement and determination. The cleanup saw a special union between the Maryland and Philadelphia chapters of WeLoveU. Maryland volunteers woke up early to travel and volunteer alongside their Philadelphia counterparts.
Together, the volunteers split into teams, each armed with gloves and garbage bags, ready to tackle the mountain of trash that had accumulated over time. In just one hour, these dedicated individuals managed to remove an astounding 4,000 pounds of trash.
The Clean WORLD Movement
Their efforts were part of WeLoveU’s Clean WORLD Movement, which symbolized their commitment to Water, Oxygen, Region, Life, and Descendants—the very essence of a sustainable and thriving planet. The cleanup wasn’t just a random act of kindness; it was a reflection of their alignment with Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 15—Good Health and Well-being, and Life on Land.
State Representative Jared Solomon joined the cleanup and praised the volunteers, referring to them as the “WeLoveU Warriors.” Solomon emphasized that love and warriors might seem contradictory, but these volunteers coexist beautifully in the realm of community service. He believed that this collective effort would ensure that children could attend school without the worry of trash in their neighborhoods.
