Boston Volunteers Clean up Franklin Park for Earth Day 2023

On Sunday, April 23, 2023, about 70 WeLoveU volunteers cleaned Franklin Park in Boston, MA. The 485-acre park contains playgrounds, trails, and a baseball field. Franklin Park is located in a high-traffic area, near various other attractions such as the Franklin Zoo and Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum. As many community members visit the park, trash tends to build up over time.

The Results: A Clean Place to Play

The WeLoveU volunteers started this park cleanup in the morning, equipped with rakes, brooms, and trash bags supplied by Boston Parks & Recreation. Despite the heavy rain, the volunteers cleaned the large area with bright smiles. As a result, 10 bags of trash weighing 50 lbs. and 130 bags of yard waste weighing 5,200 lbs. were removed from the park. Waste findings included wrappers, plastic bottles, and leaves.

A Word from the Volunteers

Volunteer Tiffany Lewis expressed her gratitude for participating in the event. “There were so many leaves and so much trash on the playground. I wondered how the children can really have fun playing here. I’m thankful that we were able to clean this location for the children and for the community. I hope that they will really love it and that it will stay clean for a while.”

Volunteer Wolky Estevez conveyed his excitement for future events like this: “There were a lot of people engaged today, and we all had a goal to continue the work we started on Thursday [with our last park cleanup].”

The Clean WORLD Movement

This cleanup was part of WeLoveU’s Clean WORLD Movement, which started in 2009 with the goal of attaining a clean and safe environment for all people. WeLoveU will continue encouraging all people to make efforts toward this goal.

It was such an amazing week, partaking in two clean ups with WeLoveU volunteers in honor of Earth Day. Even though it was raining everyone had a great time and I was just thankful I was able to lend a hand and help out.

  7. I really hope, all the families living within this community feel touched by your efforts!! Most people wouldn’t have shown up on a rainy day, and you all did!! That just goes to show how much this organization cares!!
