The Northeastern Region of the United States was hit with flash flooding between September 11 and September 13, 2023. When WeLoveU volunteers near Boston, MA, heard about the City of Leominster’s flooding, whom they’ve worked with before, they acted quickly.
“What’s happening here in Leominster is hard to watch,” said WeLoveU volunteer Ricky Rosario. “The WeLoveU Foundation has been organizing volunteer projects closely with this city for many years. Although we couldn’t imagine something like this happening in Leominster, I’m thankful our team of WeLoveU volunteers could lend a helping hand to the residents.”

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 8 a.m., 11 volunteers met at the Leominster Emergency Management facility to assemble and disburse sandbags. Upon arrival, volunteers saw residents in need and began loading their cars with sandbags.
Twelve people came to the facility to pack their cars with sandbags for their residences, which will help around 36 people. While at the emergency management facility, Mayor Dean Mazzarella greeted the volunteers to thank them for their service.
He said, “That magical phone call came at the right time, saying, ‘We got some volunteers to bring some sandbags to one of the nursing homes.’ It had a foot of water in the basement. We are happy to see you [WeLoveU] since COVID separated us briefly, but they [WeLoveU] ensured they stayed in touch with us. We’re like friends forever. Thank you very much.”
In addition to passing out sandbags, WeLoveU volunteers went to the Leominster Rehabilitation Center to deliver sandbags. The center is home to 74 units. In total, WeLoveU volunteers handed out 153 sandbags.
