The International WeLoveU Foundation conducted its annual “Packs on Backs” program. In New Jersey, volunteers supported students at South Amboy Elementary School on Monday, September 11, 2023. The drive involved handing out backpacks and various school supplies to 165 kindergarten and first-grade students. Loads of smiles, joy, and laughter filled the gymnasium from teachers, students, and other staff members happy to participate.

WeLoveU volunteers were accompanied by special guests such as Bianca Markovski from Senator Cory Booker’s office; Ronald Tios, director of Middlesex County Commissioners; Fred Henry, South Amboy mayor; Anthony Conrad, South Amboy councilman; Dr. Frederick D Williams, South Amboy Superintendent; Lynn Jasica, South Amboy school board president; Paula Taggart, South Amboy school board member.
“First, I would like to say thank you to the founder for coming up with this idea (Packs on Backs & Tools for Schools). Secondly, I would like to say we need more than another 20 years from her and the volunteers to do what you all do. It is a great organization, and it does so many positive things for the community that it will have a positive impact on these children’s lives when they all grow up to be adults,” said Ronald Rios, director of Middlesex County Commissioners.

“What’s happening here is something really great for the students in South Amboy. I really appreciate the WeLoveU organization coming and giving backpacks and all sorts of school supplies. It will impact the community because we know a lot of things are increasing in price, and there are a lot of people in need. Parents are having difficulty with the cost of things. We really appreciate the backpacks and school supplies because it is one more step in helping to educate our students,” said Fred Henry, mayor of South Amboy.
The drive is part of WeLoveU’s “Closing the Homework Gap: Packs on Backs and Tools for Schools” education initiative, a national effort to raise awareness of the increase in financial difficulties families are facing when preparing for the new school year.

This was such a fulfilling event and I am glad I had the chance to participate. Seeing the adorable kindergarten and first grade class made me feel hopeful for our future & want to continue to do these kind of things to benefit the future generations. I was also really touched in how appreciative the school principal , staff, and public servants were.
Thank you, WeLoveU for another memorable event & time spent !
