On Sunday, September 3, 2023, the WeLoveU Foundation conducted a cleanup at Gamboa Beach. The beach is in the City of Praia on Santiago Island. The seawater is clean as the natural bay protects it.
About 35 people participated, including First Lady Neves, President Neve’s special advisor on climate and sustainability, families, and students. Most participants were from the Maracanã Cultural and Sports Association, where WeLoveU donated 350 backpacks the week prior. Starting at 8 a.m. in earnest, the group filled several trash bags with litter covering the beach.

The cleanup is part of WeLoveU’s Oceans & Waterways Cleanup campaign. The program educates people about the harmful effects of plastic pollution while mobilizing volunteers to clean waterways. The volunteer work displayed in Cabo Verde exemplifies WeLoveU’s goal to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the common goal of global society. Starting in 2008, WeLoveU’s Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah established the Clean WORLD Movement and held a launching ceremony to organize worldwide cleanups. By establishing global networks and partnerships with countries such as Cabo Verde, we can sustain global well-being for all.
