On Sunday, February 19, 2023, the International WeLoveU Foundation hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross at the William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center in Wilmington, Delaware. The blood drive is part of a worldwide blood drive campaign to encourage people to donate blood. The blood drive began at 10 a.m. and concluded at 3 p.m.
All of the volunteers were cheerful, which uplifted the spirits of the blood center staff. The American Red Cross Team Supervisor, Terri Heath, said, “WeLoveU is one of the happiest organizations I have ever worked with. Everybody was so joyful and happy. It’s very nice to be around.” She also explained the importance of donating blood and the critical situation of the local blood supply. She stated there is only a week’s supply for some blood types in the region. Overall, Ms. Heath was impressed by the turnout of the event. She said, “We had a very good drive today. It was very busy, and we loved being here.” More people qualified to donate blood than expected; many were willing to give double red cell donations. A total of 43 pints of blood were collected, which can save up to 129 lives.
A first-time donor said she felt supported and comforted by the American Red Cross staff and WeLoveU volunteers. They made her experience pleasant and helped her accomplish her goal of donating blood successfully. The volunteer said she was moved to donate blood after researching the decline in blood donations after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vincent White, the first district councilman of the City of Wilmington, also attended the blood drive. He said, “An initiative like this is extremely helpful on all accounts. Any time you get people together to do a drive like this is really important, and the fact that we know that the blood the individuals are giving today is going to benefit families and individuals is just a remarkable accomplishment.” He encouraged the volunteers to keep up what they are doing with optimism and to remember that change starts with one individual at a time.

The International WeLoveU Foundation is the most absolutely joyful organization to work with. Whether on a large scale as a walkathon or helping out their local community here in Wilmington their warm smile invited many in to help the cause in donating blood to save lives. Even the staff working there felt warm filled with the love of a mother. It felt like a warm happy family as everyone worked harmoniously throughout the day! I am eager to see what the next event will be. Count me in!
