On Thursday, August 25, 2022, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation visited West Middle School in Hartford, Connecticut, for an exciting back-to-school event. The WeLoveU volunteers from Connecticut delivered 350 backpacks and school supplies like folders, notebooks, pens, and more to students at West Middle School.

A New School Year

Principal Joshua Scherer, staff member Colleen Grimes, 25 volunteers, and more than 180 students were in attendance at the donation ceremony. With less than one week until students return to school, the students expressed their excitement to start the school year.

Cheering Up the Students

During the event, WeLoveU volunteers joyfully distributed school supplies and spoke encouraging words, wishing students and their families to have a good school year. This is the second year for West Middle School to resume all activities since the pandemic. Colleen Grimes remarked during her interview following the back-to-school event how genuine, loving, and kind the WeLoveU volunteers were. She also thanked the Chairwoman for her devotion and attention to the education system.

The event concluded with a group photo. “I had a fantastic time working with the WeloveU volunteers, and West Middle is eager to continue working with WeLoveU on future projects to continue supporting our students,” said Principal Sherer.

The backpack donation is a part of WeLoveU’s education program: Closing the Homework Gap: Packs on Backs and Tools for Schools campaign. WeLoveU aims to alleviate the financial burden on families from underserved communities during back-to-school shopping by providing essential school supplies, such as backpacks, notebooks, and writing tools. The Packs on Backs campaign fulfills Sustainable Developmental Goal #4, Quality Education, and is underway in nine states across the nation and is helping 3,300 students this school year.
