WeLoveU Spruces Up Boston’s Ringer Playground in Honor of Clean Day

On May 22, 2022, over 60 volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation cleaned Ringer Playground in Allston, MA. Despite the heatwave, volunteers collected 105 bags of litter in a few hours. The cleanup was held in honor of WeLoveU’s Clean Day, a day that encourages volunteers globally to hold cleanups in their region.

Ringer Playground is a century-old park that spans more than 12 acres. The park, once called an oasis in the community, became littered with plastic waste and trash. To restore the park’s beauty, WeLoveU joined hands with Boston Parks and Recreation, the Ringer Park Partnership Group, and members of the community to remove aluminum cans, water bottles, plastic bags, and other litter from the park.

At the heart of Ringer Playground’s park, volunteers displayed educational panels about the Clean WORLD Movement to encourage residents to act in their community. Parkgoers learned about the environmental initiative and how to fulfill the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Joan Pasquale, a representative from Ringer Park Partnership Group, applauded the volunteers. “Thank you so much! You ought to be proud of yourself! Look at all the work you did. It’s amazing. Thank you. Thank you very much.”

Rick Thompson from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department also attended the cleanup and encouraged the volunteers. “You guys are number one!” This year marks the fifth year WeLoveU has worked with the Department to coordinate park revitalization and cleanup efforts in Boston.

WeLoveU held cleanups in honor of Clean Day across the country and in dozens of countries worldwide. WeLoveU volunteers will continue to impact the environment by protecting and caring for the Earth.
