Waterbury Welcomes WeLoveU for 2021 Clean WORLD Movement Cleanup

On August 1, 2021, more than 30 volunteers of the International WeLoveU Foundation carried out a street cleanup in Downtown Waterbury, Connecticut. The WeLoveU Foundation volunteers partnered with Waterbury Public Works for the cleanup effort.

Mr. Monroe Webster, a representative of the Waterbury mayor, welcomed the volunteers to Waterbury. He expressed his gratitude for the WeLoveU volunteers willingness to use their Sunday to beautify the City.

“This foundation (WeLoveU) is doing a great thing!” exclaimed Mr. Monroe. “The fact that you have many numbers of peoples from different walks of life, different parts of the state and out of state, that are willing to take the time and say, “I want to make a difference. I need to make a difference. I see a need, and I’m willing to take my time to fulfill that.” That very thing is happening here in Waterbury, and we thank you and continue to encourage you to do all that you are doing.” said Monroe Webster, an aide to the mayor of Waterbury.

Afterward, the volunteers spread excitement with a cheer before cleaning. Then it was time to roll up their sleeves and start picking up trash along the streets of Waterbury. The group cleaned almost two miles from Waterbury City Hall to North Main Street. In total, they collected more than 25 bags of waste. WeLoveU volunteers cleared the roads of litter, garbage, and plastic.

The cleanup that is part of the 2021 Clean WORLD Movement was in honor of the United Nation’s declaration of the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Since June 2021, the WeLoveU Foundation has held cleanups across the United States to restore the various ecosystems neglected and damaged due to COVID-19.

Waterbury Blight Task Force Officer Thomas Spears joined the cleanup too. At the conclusion of the event, Officer Spears said, “This was a giant help! Helping out our town, even with North Main Street, was a giant help. We hope we can see everybody again. It was nice seeing everyone’s faces with a good attitude and a good spirit. It is a great pleasure being able to work with everyone today. Thank you very much!”
