Volunteers Remove Hundreds of Pounds of Trash From Oxon Run Park

More than 70 volunteers of the International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with Washington, D.C. Department Parks and Recreation (DPR) to clean Oxon Run Park on Sunday, July 25, 2021. The 4,000 square feet recreational park in the Southeast neighborhood is known for its basketball courts, community garden, and outdoor theater. The volunteers cleaned up plastics, packaging, and abandoned items such as bicycles. They collected more than 300 pounds of trash, including litter from a stream that runs through the park.

“Today’s cleanup was perfect. As you venture into the playground and the streams, you can see there’s tons of trash and a lot of work to do,” explained Alice Miller, volunteer coordinator at DPR. “I really appreciate the volunteers coming out and making an impact on this community.”

The cleanup in the nation’s capital is a part of WeLoveU’s 2021 Clean WORLD Movement in the United States, which focuses on eliminating the excess waste accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The WeLoveU Foundation hopes to provide a sense of community and comfort to residents of the Southeast neighborhood.

WeLoveU works to beautify and sustain their local communities by hosting cleanups and educating community members on the increasingly harmful impact of single-use plastics. The WeLoveU members in D.C. will continue to support their city by carrying out the Clean WORLD Movement.

  1. Great job WeLoveU, there’s a lot of trash that accumulated and still you all put taking care of your community as a priority even through Covid! Thank you for your good deeds!

  2. There’s a lot of garbage out there. Cheers to everyone who volunteered with a bright face even in the hot summer.
