MA State Reps. Oakley and Holmes Clean Almont and Harambee Parks With WeLoveU Volunteers

Almont Park and Harambee Park in Boston, MA, received a special visit on Sunday morning of July 25, 2021. More than 100 WeLoveU volunteers, in partnership with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, collected 44 bags of trash. The total bags of trash equal about 440 pounds of garbage. The cleanup, which was part of the 2021 Clean WORLD Movement campaign, happened in more than 20 locations. The goal of the environmental campaign was to reduce waste accumulated during COVID-19.

State Representatives Oakley and Holmes Help Clean Up

In addition to cleaning, volunteers set up an information tent with panels explaining the environmental campaign and the WeLoveU Foundation. The 100 volunteers from the New England region received help from special guests State Representatives Brandy Oakley and Russell Holmes. Though strong rain showers came and went throughout the course of the day, the state representatives were surprised to see the conditions didn’t deter the volunteers’ efforts. Officers from the Boston Police Department participated as well.

“Coming out today and cleaning up is so important, so continue these efforts all around the world,” said one Massachusetts State Representative. “It is these small things that make it important to us every single day, and I just want to say, ‘I love you!’ Thank you so much for being here, and I really do appreciate all the efforts.”

All cleanup participants were divided into teams, tackling all areas of the park. Splitting up into teams helped to fill up trash bags quickly. Volunteers found litter, including bicycle parts and tires.

WeLoveU’s Cleanup Works Towards the UN’s Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

The cleanup and overall 2021 Clean WORLD Movement campaign aims to fulfill the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The UN declared the ten-year plan to restore our ecosystem on World Environment Day 2021. The WeLoveU Foundation hopes to continue working to decrease, prevent and stop the harm done to our ecosystems. According to the United Nations, 1 million species are at risk of extinction by 2030 if we do not make efforts to reverse damage caused by plastic pollution.
