First Blood Drive in Louisville
On Monday, February 15, 2021, the International WeLoveU Foundation hosted its first blood drive in Louisville, KY, in partnership with Kentucky Blood Center. About 20 volunteers donated blood, participating in the WeLoveU National Blood Drive campaign 2021.
According to the FDA, the need for blood is every two seconds. It is also estimated that about 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion every year. Meeting this high demand has been more challenging because of the lack of blood donations. As one pint of blood has the potential to save three lives, the blood donations made by the WeLoveU volunteers today saved about 60 lives.
Snowy Conditions and Warm Smiles to Donate Blood
Thousands of blood drives canceled in the U.S. since the coronavirus pandemic. The blood drive in Louisville nearly canceled as well. Before the event took place, the Kentucky Blood Center planned to close due to severe weather conditions. Thankfully, the building stayed open for a limited time, and the donations made saved many lives. Despite the snowy conditions outside, WeLoveU volunteers put on warm smiling faces and donated blood during the blood center’s shortened hours.

The Kentucky Blood Center employees shared their gratitude for WeLoveU volunteers who donated blood at the drive’s end.
“We are happy to be a part of the WeLoveU Foundation National Blood Drive. It is wonderful to have dedicated groups helping us ensure we have adequate supply of blood in the hospitals for patients whenever they may need it here in Kentucky. Thank you and your donors for giving the precious gift of life to others,” said Brooke Nevius, Kentucky Blood Center Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
Inspiring the Global Village to Donate Blood
The greatest gift is one that can save the lives of others, like blood. Through this blood drive, the WeLoveU Foundation, in partnership with Kentucky Blood Center, hopes to continue saving lives by carrying out more blood drives nationwide. WeLoveU hopes to inspire the global village to do the act of kindness of donating blood at their local blood centers.
